Diabetic Diet

DIET

Diabetes is an autoimmune disease. A healthy diet provides nutrients that support the immune system. Maintaining a balance diet and eating a rainbow of fruit and vegetables is especially important.

Different Ways To Eat Smart When Dining Out

-Look online for the nutritional information for food o are considering or check for it at the restaurant.

-Order soups with a broth base not creamy ones.

-Select whole wheat breads and tortillas rather than white breads and tortillas.

-Look for grilled, baked or broiled menu options. Stay away from items labeled as fried, batter-dipped,    breaded or crispy.

-Put mustard on sandwiches rather than mayonnaise and add lettuce, onion, tomatoes, or other veggies.

-Use only low fat or fat-free dressings on salads. Even then, be careful how much you use.

-Don’t add salt to your food. Most food from restaurants is already high in sodium.

-Skip sugary desserts and choose fruit instead.
