Even when life gets busy you can still fit some exercise into your day. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate activity most days of the week. Try one of these on the go workout ideas during a break at work, when you’re waiting for the kids at sports practice or dance class, or while dinner is cooking.
10 Minute Workouts
Walk- Set a timer for five minutes. Walk quickly away from your starting point while pumping your arms. When the timer goes off, turn around and walk back to your starting point.
Climb- If you’re in a building or parking garage with stairs use them to boost your heart rate and tone leg muscles. Set a timer for as many minutes as you and briskly walk up and down the stairs. For an added challenge take them two at a time.
Dance- Create a few 10-minute playlist of high-energy songs. When you find yourself waiting for the oven timer to go off or for your favorite TV show to start, turn on the music and move your body any way that gets you heart pumping.
Jump- Keep a jump rope in your car, purse or laptop bag. Alternate different steps like forward and backward jump, side-to-side, single leg jumps and double jump in 20-30 second intervals.
Resist- For a low-impact workout, carry a resistance band with you instead of a jump rope. Prepare in advance by watching online videos to become familiar with different exercises. When it’s time for a workout, warm up for one minute by marching in place while swinging your arms. Then use your resistance band to do exercises in one minute intervals. Try biceps curls, arm extensions, squats, side shoulder raises, lunges and more.
